Cohen's - Men's Ladies' and Children's Ready-to-Wear - Superior

Cohen's Men's Ladies' and Children's Ready-to-Wear was located at 5819 Tower Avenue in Superior. The owner was Robert Cohen who immigrated from Poland. Robert and his wife Hinda lived above the store for at least 30 years.

We have a large Cohen family in our family tree database, but we don't know yet if Robert is connected to them.

The following information on the store was provided by Amy Palmer who is a great great neice:

"My name is Amy Palmer, and I have been doing family history for 20 years. My grandmother is a Cohen (Bialobzetski before immigrating) and my grandfather is a Lavick. I wanted to share what I know, in case you are still updating records in your website.

"The owner was Robert Cohen who immigrated from Poland. He is my great, great uncle. He and his wife Hinda lived above the store for at least 30 years.

"The Superior, Wisconsin US Census for 1920, 1930, & 1940 show this address as their place of residence and as their occupation and industry.

"Robert & Hinda's daughter Rebecca took over the store when he died in 1966, Hinda had already passed. Rebecca never married and kept running the store until her death in 1972. Of the four siblings, only two were left. Rebecca willed the store to the youngest Abe. He died in 1973 and then his wife, whom is still alive, sold the store. So the Cohen's clothing store existed for many decades."

The ads shown below were published in the Superior High School yearbook in the years indicated.
