Ernest Lewis Davis, 90, of East Sixth Street, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in Lakeshore Lutheran Home.


He was born in Duluth on Aug. 14, 1908, to Joseph and Rochelle (Baylee) Davis. Ernest was a graduate of Central High School. Mr. Davis was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He was the former owner of Arrowhead Furniture and past president of Fourth Street Merchants.


Mr. Davis was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue. He was formerly active in Palestine Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Duluth, Aad Temple Shrine, and American Legion David Wisted Zenith Post.


He was preceded in death by brothers Walter and Morris; and sisters Sybelle Gotkin and Celia Garson.


Survivors include his sisters Sallee Davis Kanter of Duluth, Peggy (Rod) Lavick of Cloquet and Ann Levine of Chicago; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Frieda Grecinger of Duluth.


Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel. No visitation. Interment in Tifereth Israel Cemetery. With respect to the Jewish belief in lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or Parkinsons Disease.
